Jagmeet Singh is known for his strong leadership skills and unwavering commitment to social justice. He rose to political prominence in Canada as the leader of the New Democratic Party (NDP), but his journey started long before that. Born in Scarborough, Ontario to immigrant parents, Singh quickly learned the value of hard work and determination. He went on to obtain a double major in biology and psychology from the University of Western Ontario, and later earned a law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School.
Singh’s passion for justice and equality led him to become a criminal defense lawyer, where he dedicated his career to fighting for the rights of marginalized communities. But his desire to create systemic change pushed him to pursue a career in politics. In 2011, he was elected as a member of the Ontario Legislative Assembly, becoming the first turbaned Sikh to hold a seat at the provincial level.
